Launched in 2019, The Macallan Estate is an intriguing expression containing spirit distilled from barley grown on the farm itself, Elchies Macallan Estate. Growing on the banks of the River Spey, this barley is distilled only in the course of one week each year.
It is a pleasantly mixed dram well and generously presented in a box that has an inlay slate, representing the Scottish distillery landscape that it calls home.
Matured exclusively in sherry seasoned butts and hogsheads, this expression is presented in a beautiful case with aerial photography of the barley fields surrounding the new £140 million distillery.
It's a well-sherried dram, with tasting notes of wood spice, opening into a dry oak flavour spiked with candied raisin and fresh fig. Moving into a sweet orange and delicate sweet lemon, banana and caramel.
As usual with most Macallans very hard to find. Box is also very heavy due to slate frontage.
